MATH 208 - Foundations of Geometry


Prerequisite, MATH 100  or equivalent. Students in this course will examine the fundamentals of geometry through rigorous proofs. Students will come away with an understanding of Euclidian and non-Euclidian geometries, systems of axioms, classical theorems, and geometric transformations. The main objective of this course is to provide students with a solid understanding of the history, development, and philosophical significance of geometry in the context of its mathematical foundations. This course prepares students for further proof-intensive mathematics courses. It is also recommended for future mathematics teachers. Letter grade with Pass/No Pass option. (Offered as needed.) 3 credits
