POSC 364 - International Politics of the Middle East

(Same as PCST 364.) Why are so many wars in the Middle East? To address this question we need to understand the development of the international system in the Middle East, from World War I to the present. The course focuses on four key factors: Great Power politics–US influence and interventions; regional rivalries; competing ideologies and identities (secular or Islamic) that fuel the rivalries; and domestic developments, including popular uprisings.
