CHEM 331L - Organic Chemistry II Laboratory

Prerequisites, CHEM 230, CHEM 230L. Corequisite, CHEM 331, or consent of instructor. A laboratory course for the second semester of organic chemistry designed to illustrate and reinforce CHEM 331 lecture concepts. Students continue to build skills through performing more advanced organic reactions, solidifying their knowledge in purification and separation techniques (extraction, distillation, recrystallization, chromatography) and spectroscopic analysis (IR, NMR, GC-MS, and UV-vis). A series of experiments prepare students to plan and execute multistep organic syntheses. Geared towards students majoring in STEM and pre-medical career plans. Letter grade. With consent, this course may be repeated for credit. (Offered spring semester.) 1 credit
