BCHM 350 - Medicinal Chemistry


Prerequisites, CHEM 230  or consent of instructor. This course first surveys medicinal chemistry through the ages, starting with traditional medicine and ending with key events leading to modern drug regulations enforced by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Students will also learn about the process of drug discovery in the context of both natural product isolation and synthetically derived pharmaceuticals, and they will learn practical skills in “rational” drug design. Lecture. Letter grade. With consent, this course may be repeated for credit. (Offered spring semester, alternate years.) 3 credits
