PHRM 775 - Precision Nutrition: Moving from General to Personalized Recommendations


Prerequisites, PHRM 501 PHRM 511 PHRM 531 PHRM 592 PHRM 622 PHRM 622L PHRM 631 PHRM 641 . Nutrition is a major factor in almost every chronic condition. Even with regular revision to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans that are informed by a high level of evidence, there has been little success in positively impacting population health. What is the problem with our approach- do we need to make personalized recommendations for nutrition, rather than a general approach? This elective course will cover: i) Fundamentals of nutrition & terminology used to communicate recommendations. ii) Study design in human nutrition research. iii) How information pertaining to one’s genetics is starting to inform specific dietary recommendations. Letter grade. (Offered as needed.) 1 credit
