PHRM 704 - Community Pharmacy APPE


Prerequisites, PHRM 555 , PHRM 558 , PHRM 561 , PHRM 579 , PHRM 584 , PHRM 691 , doctor of pharmacy major. This is a six-week advanced practice pharmacy experience based in a community clinical pharmacy practice setting. Under the guidance of an experiential educator, student pharmacists will generally advance knowledge and skills applicable to providing direct patient-care in this practice setting including but not limited to: selecting over the counter medications and educating patients, managing medication therapy through prescription evaluation, problem resolution and patient education, demonstrating cultural competence to engage patients and caregivers, preparing and delivering prescription products, administering immunizations and conducting health screening. Students will also learn about the management of the practice including operations (inventory management, billing third parties), managing controlled substances; and recall procedures. The course content/experience will vary by site and will be altered to accommodate a student pharmacists’ previous experiences and/or highlight an educator’s area of expertise. P/NP.
