Prerequisites, pass MUS 102 or MUS 102B with a “C” or better, and MUS 134 with a “C” or better. Prerequisites for B.M. composition major, pass MUS 102 or MUS 102B with a “B” or better, and MUS 134 with a “B” or better. The study of Western music styles and genres in historical and cultural context. Covers the transition to the Baroque period through transition to the Classical period c. 1580-1750. (Offered fall semester, alternate years.) 3 credits
