Program Learning Outcomes for B.A. in Philosophy.

Students pursuing the B.A. in Philosophy are required to:

  • Maintain at least a 2.000 grade point average in the major.
  • Earn a grade of “C” or higher in major courses.
  • Complete all courses in the major for a letter grade.
  • Complete 21 credits from upper-division courses in the major.
  • Complete the Junior/Senior Seminar requirement PHIL 398 .

Majors are encouraged (but not required) to enroll in FFC 100B - First Year Foundations: Grand Challenges in Science and Engineering to satisfy their General Education Requirement.* Students may also elect to count the three 1-credit Grand Challenges seminar courses (GCI 150GCI 200 and GCI 250) as Philosophy Electives.

*Entering students who are interested in pre-law, social, or political philosophy may take any FFC 100 course on Humanomics to fulfill this requirement.

If PHIL 398  is repeated for credit, one will count as a core requirement. The other PHIL 398  may then be counted as a philosophy elective or, if appropriate and if approved by the chair, the other PHIL 398  may be counted as either ethics or metaphysics/epistemology.
