This five-year program is open to all Chapman University undergraduates or admitted transfer students who have a strong mathematical or computational background and an interest in how people make personal and impersonal exchanges with individuals, corporations, and government entities. Chapman University undergraduates will have the opportunity to obtain a bachelor’s degree of their choice and a Behavioral and Computational Economics, M.S. with just one additional year of study. Before the end of their senior year, in addition to completing all MSBCE prerequisites, students admitted into this program must complete MGSC 532 and ECON 582 , plus three other MSBCE graduate program courses, which may be used to satisfy fifteen credits of the 120 credits required for the undergraduate degree, and will also double count towards the requirements of the MSBCE graduate program (Students should check with their department’s undergraduate program advisor). Students must complete fifteen credits of MSBCE coursework during their junior or senior year once they have met the admission requirements for this integrated graduate degree. Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher to remain in the M.S. in Behavioral and Computational Economics program.
Admission deadline
Submit an application for admission by May 31 after student’s junior year of college.
Admission requirements
- Complete roughly 75 credits or more of undergraduate coursework with a cumulative 3.000 GPA or higher and earn a cumulative 3.500 GPA or higher on prerequisite coursework or equivalent preparation.
- Submit one letter of recommendation from an individual familiar with the applicant’s academic abilities.
- Achieve an acceptable score on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE).
- Complete an interview in personal or via teleconferencing platform (Skype, Zoom, etc.).
Additional requirements for transfer students
- Be admitted to Chapman University in the undergraduate program of their choice.
- Speak with admissions about interest in the Integrated Bachelor’s degree/Master of Science in Behavioral and Computational Economics program.
- Foreign applicants who are transferring from another institution may be required to achieve an acceptable score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a minimum score of 59 on the Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic).
Requirements for the Integrated Bachelor’s degree/Master of Science in Behavioral and Computational Economics (MSBCE) degree
Requirements for the Integrated Bachelor’s degree/MSBCE degree program are the same as those listed for the Behavioral and Computational Economics, M.S. Students must complete all prerequisite coursework prior to completion of their four year undergraduate degree, as well as MGSC 532 , ECON 582 and two additional MSBCE graduate program courses.
