Performance, Piano Collaborative Arts Emphasis, B.M.

The purpose behind offering an undergraduate degree, Bachelor of Music Performance, Piano Collaborative Arts emphasis (PCA) is to allow piano students to prepare for current, more feasible career choices. This is achieved by developing a thorough working knowledge of the collaborative repertoire, including chamber/instrumental music, art-songs and opera. As with any program specializing in piano performance, the PCA program at Chapman places a great emphasis on the advancement of pianistic virtuosity and artistry. Our goal is to provide students with a robust training that espouses excellence in sight-reading, an advanced technical skills-set; an extensive knowledge of the collaborative piano repertoire and significant Romance language study. The program includes a strong music academic component, as well as the general education program required of all undergraduate students at Chapman. The aim is that upon graduation, the student may enter a renowned Master’s PCA program if they so wish, or begin working in local school districts and other settings that require exemplary collaborative pianism.
