Under the guidance of faculty advisors, English majors complete a program in one of two areas of study: literature, rhetoric and cultural studies or journalism. Each student is required to take the 15-credit English core, in addition to a 30-31 credit area of study. Students earning a B.A. in English may not double major in the B.F.A. in Creative Writing.

Students pursuing the B.A. in English are required to:
- Maintain at least a 2.000 grade point average in the major.
- Complete 21 credits from upper-division courses in the major.
- Complete the Senior Seminar requirement ENG 498A or ENG 498B .

At least 18 of the 27 elective credits must be at the upper-division level and at least six credits must be at the 400-level. Journalism prepares students for a career in the news media. Journalism students are encouraged to minor in history, American studies, foreign languages, music, religion, art history, peace studies or political science. journalism core requirements (22 credits)
