DANC 236 - Contemporary Pointe Techniques


Prerequisites, DANC 172 , DANC 174 , DANC 176 , and dance, or dance performance major. This course is designed to provide advanced dancers with greater depth of instruction and exploration in contemporary pointe work, moving beyond traditional classical ballet vocabulary. Students will develop technical skills that challenge conventional approaches to pointe work while maintaining proper anatomical alignment. Through progressive technical training, students will expand their understanding of weight distribution, off-center work, floor work en pointe, and unconventional body positions while developing the strength and control needed for contemporary choreography. The course prepares students for the demands of today’s contemporary ballet companies.  Letter grade. This course may be repeated for credit. (Offered as needed.) 1 credit
