BIOL 206 - Introductory Biology in the Field: Biological Patterns and Processes in the Galápagos Islands

In September of 1835, the British survey ship, H.M.S. Beagle, dropped anchor in the Galápagos Islands near the island of San Cristobal, with a 22-year-old naturalist named Charles Darwin on board. Darwin’s observations of the animals and plants on eight different Galápagos islands would help lead him to one of the most transformative ideas in the history of science - evolution by natural selection. In this course, students will have the opportunity to learn core concepts of biology in a field setting, with the biota of the Galápagos islands as a focus. Letter grade. Fee: travel course; please check with CGE (Offered as needed.) 4 credits
