AVE 269 - Introduction to Techniques and Technologies for Visual Effects

Prerequisites, AVE 120  or FP 370 , AVE 202B , animation & visual effects majors and visual effects minors only. This course offers a introduction to the use of procedural techniques for creating visual effects simulations within live action and computer generated content. Students are introduced to industry standard toolsets and will begin to acquire the skills necessary to create breathtaking simulations and dynamics. Through hands-on projects and comprehensive instruction, they will familiarize themselves with popular current software and workflow using popular applications such as Houdini and Nuke. They will gain foundational skills required to work procedurally using typical node based workflows for simulation techniques, such as particle systems, pyro simulation setups, and rigid body dynamics. Letter grade. Repeatable for credit if the topic is different. $75 (Offered fall semester.) 3 credits
