BCHM 438 - Virology


Prerequisites, BCHM 335 , and BIOL 208 , or BCHM 208 . Embark on a fascinating journey into the world of viruses; the unseen agents that have shaped human history and continue to affect our daily lives. Explore the secrets of how viruses operate, including their sophisticated molecular structures, genetics, infection and replication mechanisms, intricate interactions with host cells and the immune system, and mechanisms of pathogenesis. This course also investigates the latest strategies in treating and preventing infection, virus evolution, and applications in biotechnology and medicine. Letter grade. With consent, this course may be repeated for credit. (Offered spring semester, alternate years.) 3 credits
