BCHM 401 - Cancer Biology


(Same as BIOL 401 .) Prerequisites, BIOL 208 , BCHM 335 . In this course, students will unlock the secrets of cancer biology by exploring the genetic, cellular, and biochemical mechanisms underlying tumor initiation, progression, and metastasis. They will delve into the molecular pathways that drive this complex disease and learn about emerging therapeutic strategies targeting these pathways. In engaging activities with the instructor and professional guests, students will navigate the vast scientific literature, sharpen their information literacy skills, critically evaluate cutting-edge research Importantly, and prepare to be an effective science communicator. Finally, by interacting with cancer survivors and caregivers, this course cultivates the human aspect of cancer, combining compassion and empathy with scientific knowledge, empowering the students to bridge the gap between the bench and the bedside. Lecture. Letter grade. With consent, this course may be repeated for credit. (Offered fall semester.) 3 credits
