SCI 610 - Foundational Topics in Mathematics


The objective of this course is to introduce students to some advanced topics in mathematics, with a rigorous treatment and a focus on developing a strong conceptual grasp of the fundamental ideas, with their history. Throughout the course, students will learn, through discovery and application, the skills they need to develop computational fluency and deepen conceptual, as well as a critical understanding, with clear writings and oral expositions. The course will cover topics from analysis, algebra, number theory, Lie groups etc. Letter grade with Pass/No Pass option. With consent, this course may be repeated for credit. (Offered as needed.) 3 credits
