PHRM 552 - Integrated Therapeutics: Infectious Diseases I


Prerequisites, IPE 503, PHRM 502, PHRM 524L, PHRM 535, PHRM 537, PHRM 540, PHRM 577, PHRM 672, doctor of pharmacy major. Infectious diseases are a leading cause of death in the United States and worldwide. Pharmacists play vital roles in the optimization and appropriate use of antimicrobial agents within the healthcare setting. This course provides students with an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to understanding various bacterial disease processes and therapeutic management of patients with bacterial diseases. The topics of discussion will include the principles of medical microbiology, biochemistry, immunology, pathophysiology, medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, clinical pharmacokinetics, social/behavioral/administrative pharmacy sciences, medication therapy management, and clinical sciences related to the presentation and management of bacterial infections. Numerical grading. (Offered every year.) 3 credits
