PHRM 537 - Integrated Therapeutics: Cardiology


Prerequisites, PHRM 601 , doctor of pharmacy major. Cardiovascular disease is now the leading cause of death in the United States and worldwide. This required course is designed to develop the student’s ability to apply pharmaceutical principles and concepts to patient therapeutic needs in the area of cardiovascular disease. The course will take an interdisciplinary, integrated approach to cardiovascular disease and will include anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, social/behavioral/administrative pharmacy sciences, medication therapy management, clinical science and management principles in the area of cardiology. Major areas of emphasis will include but are not limited to hypertension, thromboembolism related diseases, dyslipidemia, coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Continued skill development of the clinical assessments associated with multiple disease states and medications will be emphasized. Numerical grading. (Offered every year.) 5 credits
