MFT 561 - Couple Therapy


Prerequisite, marriage and family therapy major. Couple difficulties are studied with particular emphasis placed on the unique assessment strategies necessary for conjoint evaluation and treatment.  Specialized couple issues such as domestic violence, infidelity, and infertility are covered.  In addition, students will gain in-depth exposure to Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT) and Emotion-Focused Couple Therapy (EFT) - both of which are empirically supported treatment approaches.  Gender, culture, sexual orientation, and social class are considered when conceptualizing cases, creating treatment plans, and understanding the standards of practice for couple therapy. Instructor modeling and student role play demonstrations are used to facilitate learning. Letter grade. (Offered every year.) 3 credits
