PT 536 - Functional Human Neuroscience I


Prerequisites, enrolled in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program, successful completion (with a grade of C or better) of PT 510  and PT 525 . Corequisites, PT 536L . This course uses a systematic, problem-solving approach to provide a foundation in the anatomical structure and physiological function of the normal and injured nervous system, with an emphasis on the central nervous system. Students will develop sufficient knowledge of neurophysiological and neuroanatomical principles to comprehend basic nervous system function. Students participate in lecture, discussion, and interactive laboratory sessions (PT 536L ) that include the scientific evidence for neurological principles and that require them to think critically and apply their knowledge to clinical scenarios. Selected case studies of pathological conditions of the nervous system are presented. Letter grade. (Offered as needed.) 2 credits
