ITAL 375 - Masterpieces of Italian Literature


Prerequisite, ITAL 201  or consent of instructor. This course focuses on a number of authors who have embodied and shaped the literature and culture of Italy, from the Middle Ages until modern times. Students will analyze the style and context of significant works by authors such as Dante, Petrarch, Boccaccio, and Machiavelli. The readings will serve as a starting point for oral and written activities aimed at improving linguistic skills, critical thinking, and creativity. Students will engage in a number of self-directed projects exploring the creative potentials inherent in Italian literature of yesterday and today. Taught in Italian. (Offered as needed.) 3 credits
