MUS 427 - Advanced Counterpoint

Prerequisite, pass MUS 340 with a “C” or better, or consent of instructor. Prerequisite for B.M. composition major, pass MUS 340 with “B” or better, or consent of instructor. Study of the principles of linear counterpoint from 1800 to the present. Analytical exercises focusing on the contrapuntal music of Beethoven, Brahms, Schoenberg, Hindemith, Bartok, Ligeti, Takemitsu, and others. Applied exercises in composition.
