Environmental Science and Policy, B.S.


Transferability of credits from other institutions that are not already approved for articulation to Chapman will be determined at the discretion of the program director.

All students must complete required coursework in five competency areas for a total of 51-52 credits (35-36 lower-division and 16 upper-division credits). The competency areas include:

  • quantitative foundations, competency
  • science competency
  • environmental science and policy competency 
  • data acquisition and analysis and display
  • systems approach to environmental decision making

Students then select to concentrate in one of three areas of study: ecology, earth systems or environmental policy. Students must complete 9-12 credits in their selected area of study and 3-4 credits in each of the other areas of study (for a total of 15-20 credits).

Students are required to complete a capstone course.

Program Learning Outcomes and Educational Effectiveness Evaluation Plans for B.S. in Environmental Science and Policy.

Students pursuing the B.S. in Environmental Science and Policy are required to:

  • Earn an overall GPA of 2.000 for all required major courses.
  • Complete all courses in the major for a letter grade, except those where the default grading option is P/NP.
  • Complete a minimum of 21 credits from upper-division courses in the major.
  • Complete the capstone course requirement, ENV 498 .

Majors are required to enroll in FFC 100B - First Year Foundations: Grand Challenges in Science and Engineering  to satisfy their General Education requirement.
