The Musical Theatre Minor is designed to give students an understanding of how the various elements of musical theatre production function. Demanding, rigorous training will be offered, with a focus on performance. Dance candidates will take classes in Music and Theatre, Music candidates will take classes in Dance and Theatre, and Theatre candidates will take classes in Music and Dance. A non-Dance, Music, or Theatre major will take courses in all three areas. All students at Chapman are eligible to apply for this minor.
Admission Process for the Musical Theatre Minor
The admission process for the musical theatre minor programs starts with contacting the associate dean of the College of Performing Arts to discuss the possibility of completing the minor in time to graduate. If it is determined the minor can be completed, follow the admission procedure described below.
Admissions process:
- Contact associate dean of the College of Performing Arts (thomas@chapman.edu) to determine if it is possible to complete the minor in time to graduate and for information about auditions.
- Audition for the minor at the end of the spring semester of the first year of study or upon entry to a CoPA program if a transfer student. This audition will be conducted by faculty from the three areas (music, theatre and dance) in the College of Performing Arts and will entail a thorough review of the student’s background in musical theater and aptitude either as a dancer, actor or musician.
Course requirements differ for College of Performing Arts (CoPA) students, depending on their major.
