Theatre Performance, B.F.A.


Acceptance to the B.F.A. in Theatre Performance is by audition for those students who demonstrate excellence in acting techniques, artistry and performance. The B.F.A. in Theatre Performance degree prepares and trains students to be successful as performers in all types of theatrical productions. Students in the B.F.A. program follow a rigorous sequential curriculum designed to assist them reach their full potential as performers within the context of a liberal arts education. In this degree, students study traditional acting techniques with a strong emphasis on techniques appropriate and specific to working in live theatre. Students are provided with professional workshops that prepare them for careers after college.

Students are provided sufficient opportunity to demonstrate their talent in campus stage, film and television productions and are encouraged to pursue professional internships.

Students are admitted to the B.F.A. in Theatre Performance program by audition at entrance to Chapman. Currently enrolled theatre majors may audition in the fall or spring semester of the freshman year. For audition information, interested students should contact the Department of Theatre assistant for more information.

Students enrolled in the B.F.A. in Theatre Performance are encouraged to attend the Theatre Academy of London Program (TAL) in spring semester of sophomore year. Please consult with the Department of Theatre for more information.

Students pursuing the B.F.A. in Theatre Performance who also choose to complete a second major are advised that doing so may require either additional time to complete both degrees or may incur additional tuition costs due to semesters that may require enrollment in more than 18 credits.

Program Learning Outcomes and Educational Effectiveness Evaluation Plans for B.F.A. in Theatre Performance.

Students pursuing the B.F.A. in Theatre Performance are required to:

  • Earn an overall GPA of 2.000 for all required major courses.
  • Complete all courses in the major for a letter grade.
  • Pass courses in the major with a “C” (not a “C-“) or higher.
  • Complete a minimum of 21 credits from upper-division courses in the major.
  • Complete the capstone requirements, TH 497A , TH 497B .
