The mission of the Department of Marriage and Family Therapy is to provide students with the academic and professional training to become multiculturally competent, ethical and systems-oriented marriage and family therapists who are critical consumers of research in the field. The Department offers a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy degree, that is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage & Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) and provides students with the unique opportunity to complete their practicum experience at Chapman University’s on-site MFT training clinic, the Frances Smith Center for Individual & Family Therapy. This substantial clinical training component, includes video and live observation, in which students work under the supervision of licensed marriage and family therapists, who hold the national AAMFT Approved Supervisor Designation.
