ENV 345 - Restoration Ecology

Prerequisites, ENV 250  or BIOL 205  and BIOL 205L . Restoration science is an increasingly important field as climate change continues to threaten our most biodiverse ecosystems. This field is interdisciplinary, drawing from field ecology, genomics, social sciences, and physical processes like geology, hydrology, and engineering. In this course, students will broaden their understanding of the theories, tools, and applications of aquatic and terrestrial restoration science. We will explore these topics using existing sample collections, datasets, and established field sites in California. Students will also be expected to develop independent research questions of the provided datasets and have the opportunity to interact with local agencies like the US Geological Survey and the SCCWRP. Letter grade. Repeatable for credit once if the topic is different. (Offered spring semester, alternate years.) 3 credits
