PHYS 326 - Astrophysics and Cosmology


Prerequisites, PHYS 101 . Students explore an introduction to the fields of astrophysics and cosmology. Students learn about the structure and formation of planets, stars, galaxies, and the larger universe, as well as how these can be observed using both light and gravity. Topics include the comparison of Newtonian and Einsteinian gravity, stellar composition and evolution, pulsars, black holes, the cosmic microwave background, inflation, dark matter, and dark energy. Letter grade with Pass/No Pass option. (Offered as needed.) 3 credits
