PHRM 765 - X-ray Crystallography in Drug Discovery

Prerequisites, PHRM 501, PHRM 511, PHRM 531, PHRM 592, PHRM 622, PHRM 622L, PHRM 631, PHRM 641, doctor of pharmacy major. X-ray crystallography is a powerful tool for determining protein structure and has been used in drug discovery since 1980s. It allows the detailed analysis of ligand (drug) binding to its target protein, resulting in the design of new medicines or improvement of the available drugs. This course offers an introduction to the x-ray crystallography technique, including growing protein crystals, determining crystal structure of proteins, and application of the information obtained from crystal structures in drug design and development.
