BRJL 347 - The Art of the Interview


Prerequisite, BRJL 103 . Students will explore one of the basic tools of journalism, learning how to conduct an interview from picking the right guest to asking the right questions. They will learn how to listen, and why a successful interview is not just a conversation. The course will also explore interviews that changed history, sparked scandal and turned ordinary people into celebrities; look at different media formats, from morning TV to late night, and look at how social media and the 24-hour news cycle have changed the interview. Students will produce a series of field and studio interviews, assuming the role of interviewer and guest, as well as behind the camera duties. (Offered as needed.) 3 credits
