About the Liberal Studies degree program

The Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies (LBST) provides a dynamic, liberal-arts curriculum for those students interested in pursuing a career as a multiple-subject teacher. This major provides students an opportunity to develop knowledge in multiple content areas that will strengthen their skills as an educator. The major challenges students to dedicate their intellectual and personal capacities in a demanding and rewarding profession that can make a positive difference in the lives of children.

The B.A. in Liberal Studies program is designed to prepare students to become future multiple-subject teachers. The curriculum combines challenging coursework with guided experiences in multiple content areas. The student who majors in Liberal Studies will complete a lower-division core (eight courses), and an upper-division core (eight courses).

Admission to the Liberal Studies degree program

A program admission selection committee will review all Liberal Studies applicants and determine final admission status. An applicant can petition for another review if denied initial admission.

Throughout the B.A. in Liberal Studies program, students will produce assessments that document their acquisition of specific learning outcomes that ensure the Liberal Studies student is making good progress through the major before moving on to the next stage. These assessments ensure that the graduates from the B.A. in Liberal Studies represent the Attallah College of Educational Studies as successful educators of the future, helping students achieve and learn.

All courses within the major must be taken for a letter grade and passed with a “C” or higher, unless the course is only offered as P/NP. Due to the assigned observation and/or fieldwork components for some of the Liberal Studies courses, students may be required to provide additional documentation or certifications. All Liberal Studies students are required to read and sign specific information found in the Liberal Studies fieldwork clearance packet during orientation.
