Integrated Bachelor of Arts/Master of Arts in English

The Department of English in Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences offers an integrated undergraduate/graduate program. This program enables Chapman students to begin taking graduate coursework during the senior year of their B.A. or B.F.A. program and to complete the M.A. the following year. Students pursuing the B. A. in English, the B.F.A in Creative Writing, or any Chapman student with at least two upper-division courses in literature, rhetoric, and cultural studies are eligible to apply. Students apply to the M.A. during their junior year or first semester senior year. If accepted into the integrated graduate program, undergraduate students may take, and share, up to 15 credits, between the undergraduate and graduate degree. Students in the integrated bachelor’s plus master’s programs will matriculate into the graduate program after the completion of their bachelor’s degree. Students may not begin Year 5 coursework without certified completion of the bachelor’s degree from Chapman University. Students should check with their advisor and financial aid regarding sharing credits. Integrated program students must have either already earned 90 credits or be enrolled in and anticipate having earned 90 credits earned before the first day of the graduate course(s) in which they wish to enroll.See Integrated Undergraduate/Graduate Programs in the Academic Policies and Procedures  section of the catalog.

Any 500-level course that is approved for M.A. credit is eligible to count toward the integrated program. Students who wish to apply for the Graduate Student Instructor Program must take ENG 580 during the spring semester of their senior year. Students complete the remaining 18 credits of the M.A. degree, including all required courses, by the end of the graduate year.
