Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, M.S.

In the MS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science program, students prepare to lead and to innovate in the fast-evolving engineering fields of ubiquitous computing and systems-of-systems. Through advanced coursework in electrical, intelligent and computing systems, students learn to navigate the increasingly blurred interfaces between software systems and the data mined from them. As students develop cutting-edge skills in designing component-level solutions that cross domains, they will explore intelligent algorithms that turn vast amounts of data into new levels of understanding. This unique program provides not only outstanding technical depth and industry-informed content, but also a strong foundation in ethics and leadership, which are vital components of a modern engineering education.

It is expected that students admitted to the MS EECS program will have completed substantial preparatory coursework as an undergraduate major or minor from a regionally accredited institution in one of the following disciplines, or the equivalent: Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or Software Engineering.

Transfer Policy

Students admitted to the M.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science degree program may transfer up to six credits completed toward M.S. degree coursework upon approval by the program director or associate dean of the college. (See Academic Policies and Procedures  for transfer policies.)

Students pursuing the Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science are held to the University’s Academic Policies and Procedures . In addition, these specific degree standards apply:

  • Minimum grade “C+” or above required in all coursework.
  • Maintain 3.000 GPA in the degree.
  • Complete the thesis or coursework option as part of Mastery Demonstration.

The following courses make up the M.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science curriculum (30 credits):

Ethics Core (3 credits)


Students complete three 1-credit sections of ENGR 501 - Ethical Foundations of Engineering. Each section completed must be a unique topic.

Technical Core (15 credits)


Students complete 15 credits from at least two areas of study.

Mastery Demonstration (6 credits)


  • Option 1

  • 3 credits (Complete two 3-credit sections for a total of 6 credits).

  • Option 2

    Complete two additional 3-credit courses from the Technical Core.
