Acceptance to the B.A. in Dance is by audition only. The curriculum is designed to provide students with previous dance training a conservatory level education within a liberal arts context and to provide the basis for further involvement in professional dance, education or graduate study. Students are expected to achieve technical competency in a variety of dance styles and gain experience in choreography, performance, production and teaching. Also emphasized is an understanding of dance history, dance science and the role of dance in culture and education.

Technique and performance studies

Dance majors are placed in technique levels by audition. Dance technique classes may be repeated for credit as content changes each semester. Students performing are required to be enrolled in a minimum of one technique class during the semester in which they perform.

B.A. dance majors may take up to 12 credits in physical activity classes (which include dance technique classes) towards the total credits needed to graduate (120). Additional credits taken beyond that limit, although recorded, will not count in total credits earned towards degree completion.
