Requirements for the Special Education Preliminary Credential Mild/Moderate and Moderate/Severe degree
Passing score on the CBEST examination or passing score on the CSET writing skills test.
Subject matter preparation requirement: subject matter requirements in special education are met by completing the subject matter requirements from either single subject or multiple subject programs. If the candidate already holds another basic teaching credential (i.e., multiple subject or single subject), no additional subject matter requirement is necessary.
Passing score on the RICA exam prior to application for credential (exam should be taken after EDUC 500).
All candidates completing any Special Education Preliminary Credential must clear their credential within five years of obtaining their first special education teaching position following the completion of the Preliminary Credential.
All students entering any preliminary education specialist program must attend an orientation.
Students pursuing the Special Education Preliminary Credential Mild/Moderate and Moderate/Severe are held to the University's Academic Policies and Procedures. In addition these specific graduate course degree standards apply:
Minimum grade "C+" or above required in all graduate coursework.
Maintain 3.000 GPA in all graduate coursework.
