COM 788 - Advanced Qualitative Methods II


Prerequisite, COM 786 , admission to Ph.D. in Communication or consent of instructor. This doctoral course builds on the introductory foundations students have developed in Advanced Qualitative Methods I (COM 786). The course will advance and hone students’ skills and knowledge in multiple areas of empirical qualitative inquiry, including selecting and implementing research designs, analyzing and coding a wide range of data collected both in-person and digitally, and effectively interpreting and disseminating research findings to a variety of audiences. Students will develop these capabilities through such class activities as critical analysis of readings, class discussions, collaborative and independent activities, and crafting and refining an original qualitative research design over the course of the semester. Letter grade. This course may be repeated for credit. (Offered as needed.) 3 credits
