HCOM 582 - Communication Campaigns


Prerequisites, enrollment in or completion of HCOM 595 , admittance to the M.S. in Strategic Communication or Ph.D. in Communication program or consent of instructor. This course examines the components of effective strategic communication campaign design, implementation, and evaluation. In this discussion-based course, we will review various theories/approaches concerning social marketing, persuasion, message design, and campaign message exposure. An emphasis will be placed on the myriad opportunities for strategic communication campaign knowledge and practice in organizational, political, health, media, interpersonal, and other communication contexts. Throughout the course, students will learn of and analyze various steps in campaign design, including but not limited to audience analysis, goal setting, the consideration of ethics, and the development of evaluation plans. At each step, the importance of communication theory and research will be emphasized. Letter grade. (Offered every year.) 3 credits
