DANC 351 - International Contemporary Dance


Prerequisites, dance major, consent of instructor. This international travel course provides the opportunity to deepen knowledge of international contemporary modern and ballet techniques and create international professional networks through master classes, workshops, and residencies. Students will learn about the unique history and culture of the region and how contemporary dance has evolved. Students will take classes with faculty teaching the course as well as local master teachers. The course will support the creation of each students individual artistic voice as they are drawing on the immersive experience in a new culture. Students will develop works for film, site specific or traditional stage performance which will be performed in local historic venues. The course is supported by interaction with international colleagues, readings, viewing of films, and participate in lectures designed to deepen their ability to embody, interpret and evaluate dance through historic and cultural contexts. Letter grade. This course may be repeated for credit. Fee: TBD. (Offered as needed.) 3 credits
