PHRM 786 - Advanced Topics in Critical Care This course provides pharmacy students with advanced knowledge and skills in the pharmacotherapeutic management of critically ill adult patients in the intensive care unit (ICU), a high-acuity, high-risk and highly complex patient population compared to general acute care patients. Students will learn the approach for the general management of critically ill adult patients, as well as gain an advanced understanding of the common key disease states encountered in the ICU that will help prepare them for acute care medicine advanced pharmacy practice experiences (APPEs). Students will work on patient cases individually and in groups to apply knowledge and develop critical clinical reasoning skills. This course will emphasize applying clinical knowledge, incorporating patient-specific factors and evidence-based medicine to develop optimal pharmacotherapy management plans in critically ill patients.
