CS 520 - Mathematical Modeling

Prerequisites, MATH 215 and MATH 350. Mathematical modeling is an integral part of computational science. This course is an introduction of the formulation and the analysis of mathematical models for a wide variety of real-world data and phenomena. Topics learned include dimensional analysis, optimization, simulation, applied differential equations, dynamical systems, probability, optimization, and Markov chain modeling. Models are drawn from applications including biology, physics, economics, finance, and chemistry. Letter grade. (Offered fall semester.) 3 credits
