GD 310 - Sustainability and More Than Human Design Research

This interdisciplinary design research course introduces the principles of sustainable and more than human design. The course is a design research course and requires a slow paced, analytical and reflective approach to design research. It will provide students with a critical lens required for a paradigm shift from traditional design processes, namely Human Centered Design (HCD) and User Centered Design (UCD), to a more inclusive and sustainable design approaches. This paradigm shift requires an interdisciplinary and experimental way of thinking; hence the course lectures include resources from environmental studies, ecology, philosophy and art. The course will involve targeted lectures, invited guest speakers, student-led seminars, group projects and class discussions. Letter grade. (Offered as needed.) 3 credits
