ENV 303 - Mixed Methods in Environmental Statistics

Prerequisites, ENV 101 , ENV 102 , ENV 201 . Environmental problem solving requires diverse methodology in quantitative and qualitative approaches. In this course, we will use the framework of causal inference to address environmental problems from a multidisciplinary angle. Students will be expected to use the programming language, R, to analyze and visualize data and will be introduced to the database management software, NVivo, for qualitative data analyses. Topics will include quantitative approaches (e.g., analysis of variance, non-parametric linear models, structural equation modeling) and qualitative approaches (e.g., consensus coding, narrative inquiry, ethnographic analyses). This course builds upon R coding competency expected after ENV 101, ENV 102, and ENV 201. Letter grade. (Offered spring semester.) 3 credits
