CES 101 - Community Engagement through Service Learning

Prerequisite, Community Educational Studies major or minor. This course will explore Community Engagement as community and neighborhood issues which are often unstated but form the basis for community tension and lack of trust in the participatory process. Through service learning focused readings, presentations, and discussions, the goal of the course is to engage with real community concerns so that students will understand the complexity of engagement issues, responsibilities, and practices necessary for community decision- and policy-making. Students will look at their own role as a student at Chapman University and how that role impacts the neighboring communities of Orange and Santa Ana. Letter grade. This course may be repeated for credit. (Offered as needed.) 3 credits
