CES 451 - Educational Applications of Technology


Prerequisite, instructor consent required. Junior or senior standing is required.  This course provides an overview of a range of educational tools and applications of technology in the classroom. It includes but is not limited to the following content: using technology to communicate with and support students and families including blended and online learning environments, the use and adaptation of a variety of technological resources, and assistive technology, modeling and developing digital literacy in students, promotion of digital citizenship and the associated legal implications for the use of technology (e.g. Creative Commons license, fair use, internet security, etc.), effective teaching strategies aligned with international educational technology standards (e.g. ISTE), virtual collaboration, personalized and technology-rich lessons offering students multiple means to demonstrate learning, the use of technology to support assessment administration and data analysis, and the responsible use of social media and digital platforms and tools as a professional educator. Meets the professional clear requirements for classroom application of computers. Some sections of this course are taught online. Letter grade. This course may be repeated for credit. (Offered as needed.) 3 credits
