AVE 219 - Caricaturing for Animation


Prerequisites, AVE 209 , instructor consent. Students will develop traditional drawing skills and techniques used in rendering recognizable, exaggerated facial likenesses. Building on these fundamentals they will use graphic design techniques and principles to communicate emotion, character, and story situations: skills useful in animation filmmaking and development of animated characters. Classes will include lectures with numerous examples from caricaturists past and present. Each session will also have workshop assignments which will be critiqued in class in a communal format.  Letter grade. With consent, this course may be repeated for credit. $75 (Offered interterm.) 1 credit
