SOC 365 - Racialized Punishment

(Same as AFST 315.) This course will cover how criminalization impacts racialized groups in the criminal justice system, immigration detention, and other institutions. Historically grounded anti-Black sentiments contribute to constructions of criminality and deviance. Focus is given to punishment practices and social movement efforts within a United States and Borderlands racial context. Letter grade with Pass/No Pass option. With consent, this course may be repeated for credit. (Offered as needed.) 3 credits
