HUM 340 - Applied LGBTQ Studies


Prerequisite, HUM 205  or consent of instructor. This course is designed to engage students in an exploration of the applicability and impact of queer theoretical frameworks/methods/analytics upon/within the real-world. Centering the highly personalized question, “what can I do with an education in LGBTQ Studies?,” students will explore applications in activism, education, public health and medicine, research, community organizing, consulting, and career development. Through embracing the queer critique, students will be challenged to disrupt normative expectations of “the future” while being encouraged to adopt an imaginative approach to desiring labor, service, and ingenuity. Course may be taken Pass/No Pass. Letter grade with Pass/No Pass option. (Offered every year.) 3 credits
