POSC 383 - History of Political Philosophy


Prerequisite, sophomore standing. Students in this course study the political ideas of selected political philosophers from the ancient, medieval/Renaissance, and modern periods, with a view toward understanding the elaboration and development of key concepts of political philosophy, and with a view toward understanding how political philosophy can help us understand contemporary issues.  Emphasis is placed on the reading of classic texts. Letter grade with Pass/No Pass option. Repeatable for credit if the topic is different. (Offered fall semester, alternate years.) 3 credits
