AFST 101 - Introduction to Africana Studies


This course provides students with an introduction to Africana Studies. The course is designed to examine the histories, literatures, aesthetics, spiritual, cultural, and political traditions of people of African descent. Through a multidisciplinary perspective, it reveals the ways in which African descendants come to know and live race in the United States and around the world. Students engage various texts in the field, all of which center a deeper understanding of Africa and the African Diaspora and are framed by a concern with epistemologies of resistance and challenge individuals to think creatively about the changing contours and focal points of Africana Studies. Letter grade. (Offered as needed.) 3 credits
